Memory BIWA was born in 1979 and raised in Namibia, and took up studies in Cape Town, South Africa in 1999. Presently she is a fellow within the Archives and Public Culture Research Unit at the University of Cape Town, where she is conducting research on a sound collection. Her interests and research focus are on the archives of silenced histories specifically the genocide in Namibia.
She looks at oral history and performances re-enacting colonial history as alternative repertoires of representation, resistance and re-invention. She is also concerned with how these practices, as an alternative archive, form part of national and international debates on repatriation and reconciliation in the aftermath of colonial violence.
